Awards from Last Season

John Fish has kindly dropped-off the trophies for the team from last year. In some cases, particularly with those lads who achieved one of the "special awards" he has handed these out personally, but I have any that he hasn't managed to hand out here and will distribute them at training on 5th September.

John also put together a few words explaining the thoughts that he and Andy had in selecting the various trophy winners, which I copy below:

"I had hoped to present the trophies at a presentation evening, but due to circumstances this was cancelled. The earliest now would be September, and this is a bit late, so I've written a few words.

Andy and myself decided on the special trophies in May as the parent votes didn't come in on time. We take into account the boys' behaviour and attitude in training as well as on match day. We made two Manager's Player of the Year, one from each team. The first is to Joe Peyton, who goes into every tackle like it's his last and who is a leader on the pitch. The other is to Toby Lawrence, a consistent and solid defender who reads the game well and has good ball skills. Well done boys.

Most improved player was a tricky decision between 3 or 4 players. We decided on a boy who turns up for training knowing where he wants to play, is keen to learn and is brave. That goes to Shaylen Mistry. Special mention also to Jack Allen and Bill Carrrey, who kept goal very well last season.

The final trophy is the "Golden Boot" for the top scorer for all three seasons, Will Hutchin. Not only has he top scored but there is nobody who works harder for the team than Will, attacking and getting back to defend.

It must be noted that these boys apply themselves in training and this tipped the balance in a couple of cases.

As you know, Andy and myself have stepped down for a variety of reasons. It wasn't the easiest thing for me to do personally, as there are a lot of strong ties which go deeper than football. I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching the boys for 3 1/2 years, but things change and I wish the new management team every success.

Thank you for your support.

John
