Dynamoes lose out to strong Macclesfield and Crewe and Nantwich Teams

A Tough Introduction to Champions League Football

Having finished as Runners Up in the 5 A Side leagues, Davenham completed their opening fixtures in the Champions League 7 A Side League, against two really strong and experienced teams firstly Macclesfield Ladies and then Crewe and Nantwich.

Against Macclesfield ladies, Mainwaring and Wadsworth lead the Girls forward with excellent workrate and commitment to the tackle, however Macclesfield were dominating the play and following sustained pressure they completed an emphatic 6:0 win. Davenham were limited to half chances and the closest they came followed a long distance Wadsworth free kick which was pushed around the post. Hartley and Richardson put in spirited performances, while Burns pulled the strings in midfield, but on this occasion we have to say, we were beaten by a better team.

Come the second game, Davenham looked the stronger of the two teams early on, with Woodmansey and Strefford going close. It was against the run of play that Crewe scored a fortuitous freekkick past Evison and this seemed to somewhat deflate the Davenham girls. However to their credit they created a few chances, firstly Bebbington (awesome debut) playing in a beautiful ball to Woodmansey who sprinted past the defence only to have her shot well saved. Then Strefford hit a superb effort, inches over the bar.

It was just reward that the lively Woodmansey, used her pace to good effect and placed an excellent left foot shot into the bottom corner.

Davenham need to remember that they are playing against experienced teams in the top flight of Cheshire girls football. They are getting better every week and its important the girls are praised for their endeavour and applying their training to the pitch. Well done girls, the coaches are so proud of you, and our target is to now beat these scores next time out.

Wadsworth and Mainwaring were close competitors for the MOTM award however, the popular DeLaHunty took the accolade for supporting the team in the outfield with some excellent passing and likewise offering to take the keepers position well done Daisy, well deserved.
