Davenham Girls secured promotion to the 1st Division against a spirited Halton girls side. Wadsworth and Burns made the early running and excellent link up play ensured the pressure was maintained against a Halton team, who looked to play a counter attacking game. Davenham forced several corners, before Wadsworth crossed to Burns who made no mistake with a beautiful first time effort. With Strefford working their way into the game, it wasnt long before the Davenham midfield maestro, burst through the Halton defence and added a beautifully placed goal. 2:0 to the Davenhamers, but Halton werent finished. Richardson looked unbeatable at the back demonstrating an outstanding defensive display, while the popular Evison made a couple of timely saves. Woodmansey joined the attack with pace and once more Strefford found herself in space following a superb through ball from Burns. The Davenham Dynamo made no mistake. 3:0 and half time.
Mainwaring and Hartley added fresh legs and both girls made an immediate impact with great tackling and energy. Hartleys long throws were fantastic! Davenham were unlucky not to score a fourth, when Wadsworths thumping penalty was unbelievably saved by the Halton stopper. However, Davenham continued to apply the pressure to Halton. Then after 16 minutes, Strefford scored what can only be described as a wonder goal and an early goal of the season contender. Pouncing onto a half clearance, Strefford hit a half volley from outside of the penalty box straight into the top corner. The Davenham touchline erupted 4:0! There was still time for the courageous Woodmansey , who only moments had been felled, to show the Moss Farm faithful her electric pace before squeezing in Davenhama fifth from a tight angle. The game finished 5:0 and the manager reflected on a really great team performance. Well done girls.
Davenham (0:0) Chester and District
With promotion in their sights Davenham knew they would have to be at their best to get a decent result against a strong Chester and District side. The teams seemed to cancel each other out, with only half chances at each end. The impressive Richardson continued to be a real rock in defence and when called upon, Evison the cat, saved well. Despite a full-bloodied game from both sides, neither team was able to break the deadlock and 0:0 remained the final score.
So with four games played, Davenham Dynamoes remain undefeated and whats more they are still to concede a single goal.
Richardson took the player of the match award for her really powerful defensive display with Evision just pipped to the post, following her heroics in goals.
Todays results leave the girls with at least the runners up position assured and who knows, with a little luck the golden girls could even overhaul the current league leaders, Northwich Vickies when the 5 a side heavy weights meet on the 6th October.
Win or lose girls, youve been simply unbelievable considering we only started playing football three months ago. Were so proud of you all.
