Davenham (5:1) Northwich Victoria

Smells Like Team Spirit!!

Davenham Dynamoes (5:1) Northwich Victoria  (Kennerley (3), Drinkwater (2))

The mighty men from Davenham, kicked off at the Moss Farm Arena against their friends and rivals Northwich Victoria. Antrobus continued to pick up the man maker role, and with further tactical changes in formation, Davenham started their game at a frenetic pace. Within five minutes the gold machine had breached the Northwich defence twice, with the opposition keeper saving well from both Drinkwater and Rogerson.  Moments later Wadsworth latched onto a loose ball in midfield and lashed an audacious left foot volley inches over the bar. Following relentless pressure, Burrows played some neat football with Heaword, who in turn played in Kennerley. The Davenham goal machine used his pace to good effect before nailing a shot across the keeper 1:0. The pace didnt drop and following a foul, Whitney stepped up to hit a daisycutter of a free kick which stung the keepers hands. Kennerley was first to react and smashed the rebound into the net 2:0 and the gold and black men were flying.  Kennerley went on to complete his first half hayrick with a superb individual effort to make it 3:0, before Hill played an inch perfect 30 yard pass into the path of Drinkwater. With pace and power, Drinkwater burst past the defence and smashed an unstoppable goal. 4:0 at half time. The Davenham outfit practice and practice short ball pass and move football, but of course theyll take a route one goal when the opportunity arises!!    Into the second half and Drinkwater scored a virtually identical goal to his first, this time with Kirkness providing the ammunition. This took the game to 5:0 and realistically out of reach for Northwich.  The Davenham midfield complemented each other well, with strong tackling from Wadsworth and intricate play from Lonsdale. However a lapse in concentration allowed Northwich a very soft goal indeed.  A fortuitous freekick was lofted into the Davenham box and trickled into the goal when it seemed that everyone simply stood still.  Following Fridays deadball work, this was disappointing, but it did kick fresh impetus into the game.  Stitch demonstrated great feet on the edge of the Northwich box but couldnt quite unleash a shot away. Wadsworth challenged for a 50-50 ball with his friend and opposition keeper, which resulted in treatment for the keeper however handshakes all round and the game resumed. Forster kept the right flank secure and Davenham played out the last 15 minutes, resulting in a very sound 5:1 home win and the boys received a rapturous applause from the Davenham faithful. As ever great team spirit is proving to be the real positive during the early season great stuff Davenham, lets keep this going! ...................and as Heaword said in his post match interview, yep, Im really enjoying my football at Davenham, yep deffo, its great!
