A really good (pre season) first match for the newly (but perfectly formed) Davenham Dynamoes U14s. Considering this was the first time the team had played together, it was an absolute dream start. It was a lively beginning to the match from both teams as the spoils were shared, with both midfields cancelling out each others flowing football. The message from the coaches called for a little more composure; as soon as the excellent midfield duo Kennerley and Drinkwater started to pick out their passes, the chances started to flow. On numerous occasions there was great inter play from the Davenham strikers, whose work rate was an absolute credit to them; Rogerson, Drinkwater and Stitch all went close, while Kirkness made great play down the right flank, before Kennerley lobbed an audacious shot inches over the bar. Wadsworth provided quality passing from midfield and it seemed only a matter of time before the first goal would come. Kennerley once more went close with a 30 yarder. The defensive quartet of Hill, Antrobus, Burrows and Forster had pace, power and great distribution in abundance and rarely looked like their defensive line would be breeched. However, good team work, high work rate and close attempts became the story of the first half and Davenham counted themselves a little unlucky to go in 0:0 at halftime. The coaches swapped to a new formation and with instruction to keep the tempo and be patient, confidence was high in the away camp. Burrows moved into midfield and hit an absolute peach of an opener, ducking inside his marker before striking a 20 yarder into the top corner. 1:0. A deserved Kennerley strike quickly followed 2:0 and the mighty men in gold started to turn the screw. Great dead ball delivery from Rogerson and Hill presented the home side with further problems before Stitch latched onto a Kennerley pass to add a third. Further goal from Stitch (what a great header, like Bob Latchford!), a sublime hatrick from Rogerson and a brace from Kennerley ensured an emphatic first win for Davenham. Wallwork made an athletic save with 5 minutes to go, while Kirkness who was outstanding throughout ensured that any late Cuddington attacks were halted. Credit to Cuddington who as expected always play a good spirited game Davenham realise it will be tougher next time these two teams meet.
MOTM: Burrows (as voted for by the Davenham Chairman who came to support)
