For those of you interested here is the Sandbach version of today's events.
Sandbach overcame a competitive opener in the Albert Steele trophy against the visiting Davenham team. It was the home side that took the lead as Kieran Furse pounced on a Lewis Barker ball that Charlie Roddick flicked on. The home side could have gone in at half time four up, as despite limited protection on the field managed to out-football the visitors.
The second half was no less physical, with the Sandbach players losing concentration on their game began to become embroiled with the additional activities taking place. Davenham took their chance and equalised and with Sandbach players still re-organising went 2-1 up. Steven Williams was switched into midfield and James Goodier pushed up and within minutes had equalised after Steven Williams had closed down the ball, threading the ball through for James Goodier to convert. Sandbach were now in control with only desperate defending keeping the home side at bay. The dazzling Lewis Barker [not listening to comments from the visiting Mums] and Jordan Ravenscroft now back on in right midfield led the charge as a Charlie Roddick cross was headed home by Kieran Furse for his second, reward for surviving his 40 minute mauling and the teams commitment.
"Limited protection" and "mauling". Were we at the same game?
Chris, i'd just like to say a Big Thank you for Reffing for us today.
We know that playing against Sandbach always has its fun and Games and i to wasn't at that game they have written about. The teams played extremly well and we'll always get tough matches but our Davenham under 10's are a credit to us all. Well done.
It's a shame that such a petit minded fool should have to publish the above report on his clubs web site, as some of us already know, this is not the first time he has written detrimental comments about the opposition and despite being reprimanded about these type of comments in the past he clearly is not a fast learner. For what it's worth he seemed fine all the time his team were winning but had a sudden change of attitude once our lads breached his sides defence on two occasions, a bit like the 'it's my ball and I'm going home' attitude. Let us hope that it is a long while before we have the displeasure of this poisonous little man's company again. For the record well done for the day Chris, the last time I looked football was classed as a contact sport or in other words a mans game.
Chris, well done for Saturday, under very difficult circumstances from a very difficult Manager, who should have been setting an example to his team by respecting the referees decision instead of complaining .... when losing! It should be pointed out that to referee a match is voluntary and is by a parent - so well done.
PS - the mums comments were directed at the childish manager that he needed to respect the referee and at no point was any comment directed at any of the children on the pitch!
